Cooper

You aren't a child who has a "security" toy. Thank goodness because we loose things a lot and I'd hate to be in charge of your favorite things. Instead you find a new item every few days/weeks that is your favorite. Recently it is a huge stuffed dog that you carry around with your blanket in the morning. Daddy and I laughed the first time you tried to bring it to bed with us early in the morning wake ups that you give.

Nora

You love to be outside. You are often found standing by the sliding door or front door saying "outside" in your nasally sounding voice. When you find out we are getting our jackets and shoes on, you get so excited. Once out, you love to ride in your car or play in the sandbox.

You are a dancing queen. Anytime you hear music you start running in place or bouncing with your legs. Cooper never danced until recently-between you and school he's coming out of his shell. We have dance parties before bedtime.

Cooper

You love to play outside especially when the other kids are out playing. The neighbor kids are all older than you-the youngest is 6 and the oldest is 12. When you run outside and see the kids you yell HI everybody! This is the first year we've let you go across the street to play and you love it!!!

Cooper

What a big boy you are growing into. Preschool has changed you so much and boy do you love each day! Your teachers are Ms. Liz and Ms. Ezzy. The kids you play with the most are Marino, JB, and Lillia. Each day you smile at the mere mention of going to school and run up to the building each day when we arrive. I do hope that your love of school continues....Each night before bed I ask what your favorite part of the day was. Your ability to remember parts of the day always warms my heart. I hope your teachers know how much you love school.

Each week you learn a new letter, the sound it makes and the class makes a list of the words of that letter. Your new fascination is to ask what letter words start with. I would say you ask about at least 30 words a day! Such an eager learner.

Your love for Nora is amazing. Some mornings she wakes you up and you smile the sweetest, biggest smile as you wake up and know she is near you.

How much you love me. You will just come up and give me a kiss or tell me that you love me. I never could have imagined the feeling I have when you look at me and smile. At night either Daddy or I will stay with you for a little while before you fall asleep. There are nights when you take my hand and arm and hug it tight. The absolute best is when you ask me to lay on the pillow next to you and to stay a while. You are such a loving little boy.

Nora

You are talking so much these days. The way your voice sounds is so cute....it sounds like you are holding your nose. Daddy and I laugh when you ask for a snack: I want snack and you head over to the pantry to get your snack.

Halloween was so much fun for you! While you had no idea what candy was, you sure knew that people were handing you things and saying how adorable you looked in your Vikings cheerleader costume. You took off down the sidewalk practically running as fast as your little legs could move you up driveways. By the end of the night you were saying "Trick or Treat" in your nasally tone. Many people were letting you grab candy out of the bowl-for those people who handed it to you you would reach up for the bowl because you wanted to do it on your own!

Nora

Well, you have your Mama's personality for getting frustrated and it is so darn cute! When you don't get what you want fast enough, you start grabbing at your clothes, scrunch up your toes or stand on your tippy toes if you are standing, and get loud! I love it!!!
You are cruising right along these days and are trying so hard to walk on your own. You can find your head (and proceed to rip any and all hair ties out of your hair within a few minutes of pulling the hair out of your eyes), your nose (you like to stick your fingers in your nose), and your belly.
Daddy has taught you sign language for drink and more both of which you do very well and allow us to know what you want without you getting too frustrated.
You are a little sweetheart and are a Daddy's girl! When you see Daddy enter the room you crawl as fast as you can to get to him and if he leaves the room, forget it! You cry and wait for him to get back. If Daddy is holding you and tries to give you to someone else to hold, you grab onto him and don't let go! Your Daddy loves it

Cooper

Camp:
You have left Ms. Ragaa, your sitter for the past 3 years. You've been in a setting with just a few other kids most of whom were younger than you. This summer you started a camp where you get to be with kids all your own age. Each morning when you wake up, you ask if you are going to your adventure after morning. We call camp your adventure so that you'd understand what camp was. Even on Saturday and Sunday you wanted to go. We can't wait for your next stage which is preschool in the fall!

Cooper

You are so such a sweet boy....and curious! My favorite times with you are anytime you will sit and tell me a story about something that happened in your day. Just today you randomly started telling me about crying outside because you didn't want to hug Stella. That happened a week ago and you haven't talked about it since it happened. You do not like to tell people goodbye-you usually won't give hugs and become very shy. I think we will need to have the person leaving make sure they get a good hug from you before they do leave so that they get it!
My other favorite time with you is bedtime. Our routine with you and sleep is the same as it always has been-clean up, diaper, read a book. Lately, when we finish the book you want to read it to us. I enjoy your renditions of the books either we have read over and over and you know by heart or new books that you ask "what this, Mama?" Some nights you aren't quite ready to be by yourself, so you stroke my face and say "stay with me, Mama" My heart just melts when you say this. If you sense I am about to get up, you'll throw your arm around my neck so I stay. Other nights you tell me to "go, Mama". You like your light on, closet doors closed, and the door left open. Most nights you'll come running into Mama and Daddy's room in the middle of the night and either we'll walk you back to your room or if you get to Mommy, she throws you into bed and then then wonders how you got there when she wakes in the morning!

Nora

You are growing so fast. Just tonight I kept looking at your face and felt like it has changed over night. It's been a while since we've updated the new things you are doing.

A few weeks ago you had to have tubes placed in your ears and I truly think you are hearing better. You aren't much of a talker, but I am sure that will all change soon.
When you smile it takes over your whole face. The way your eyes scrunch up when you smile and the little gap in between your 2 front teeth is simply adorable.
You are an absolute Daddy's girl. Tonight you heard Daddy's voice (you were playing with me) and started crying because you couldn't see him. You instantly took off looking for Daddy and just sobbed until he came up the stairs. During the same night, you woke up a little while after you fell asleep. I was rubbing your back and you turned up to look at me. I am almost positive you looked at me and saw I was not Daddy and started crying. I love the connection you and Daddy have!

Speaking of your cry. It is intense! Loud and screeching-it is one that would make people run to your side if they didn't know it was your normal cry. You are truly dramatic with the crying...but we always run to your side to make sure you are okay and to get a little chuckle over the reason why you are crying.

Your hair.....oh it is such a beautiful mess. Daddy definitely can get your hair in a good ponytail. Not sure why Mommy can't but I'll be there to help you control the curl when you get older. Lately when we put a barrette, headband, ponytail holder you have it pulled out within a few minutes. We think you get great pleasure in watching us say "No, Nora. Keep it in!" Even Cooper tells you to leave the hair alone!! We feel so bad for you because if your hair isn't pulled back, then it is all in your eyes but you don't seem to mind.

You are getting so big and changing each day.

Growling Nora

You used to make sounds that sounded like a kitty cat. Now you make growling sounds. Deep growling sounds. Tonight Daddy was rubbing your back and you were growling in happiness.
2 big things happened this weekend: You got your first tooth and started crawling on your hands and knees. I don't think you like crawling on all fours because you can get around much faster on your army crawl.
9 months already. It's going by so fast. I worried for so long how I was going to love you as much as I do Cooper, but it comes naturally. You are such a sweet baby girl and Daddy and I can't wait to see what comes next with you.

Bribery for Cooper

We are not above bribing you to start using the potty. Daddy has bought you 10 different trains to give you once you start going. Tonight after a month of trying to get you to go potty or poop, you finally pooped. You knew that you would get Hiro (a new train-the most expensive one we have bought for you). Well, you got your Hiro tonight and were ridiculously happy. You introduced Hiro to all of your other trains. "Hi Salty" "Hi Hiro" "Hi Duncan" "Hi Hiro". TOnight you read a book to Hiro.
You are precious when it comes to the trains.

cooper

Mommy and Daddy say you "YOu are such a good boy!"
You say to us "You a good lady" or "You a good man"

cooper

You have always loved to read since you were a litlte baby and figured out how to turn the pages of a book. Currently you love to read The Little Engine that Could and we read it to you each night. Some nights you want to keep reading a book, so you ask us to leave the lights on so you can read your book. Daddy and I often can hear you telling the story of a book that we've read a few times to you. It melts our hearts that you love to read so much and are already anticipating needing to keep stock in flashlight batteries as you will probably stay up late at night reading books!

Chuck E Cheese-Cooper

For some reason Daddy and I tend to be a little on the protective side with letting you explore freely. I for one get pretty nervous about you getting hurt.....We went to Chuck E Cheese for the first time when we were in Florida. The place was empty for just a few other people. There was a maze that runs along the ceiling of the restaurant. I probably would have avoided that whole area if possible because my big fear is that you'd get up there and want to get down and I'd have to crawl up in the maze (I am not a fan of tight spaces and the maze hurts the knees!!)
You and Pop Pop went off to play and next thing we know Pop Pop comes to tell us that you crawled up the slide and was now in the maze. Surprisingly, I was excited that you got up there and enjoyed it. Pop Pop on the other hand was a nervous wreck. You were the only one in the maze and having a ball. We could follow your shadow and every once in a while you'd pokeyour head out of the one of the spots where you could see us. You were loving every minute of it and just kept crawling or walking along the tubes. Poor Pop Pop just kept saying "come on, Cooper. Come down this way. Come on out of there." Pop Pop finally confessed he was nervous about you being up there. I loved that I thought I was the nervous one, and it was Pop Pop. You had a great time playing on the rides and doing some of the games. It was a great way to see how you'd like Disney with the rides. Now....will I let you in the maze again??

oatmeal anyone?

What would you like for dinner Cooper?
Cooper: Oatmeal and yogurt.

There have been many days you had oatmeal and yogurt all 3 meals of the day. I am sure that you are doing that so when you get to be 13 and are eating us out of house and home you can remind us to think of all the money you saved us the first few years!!

The best was that you love yogurt so much that we spent $2 on Disney yogurt that would have cost $.70 at the grocery store....

polite boy

You thank everyone. From the nurse who gives you shots to the elevator, yes the elevator. At Disney you were thanking everyone when you got off the rides. PopPop commented on how polite you are.
Whenever you do anything wrong you immediately say you are sorry. It is starting to break my heart because sometimes when you do something on accident you say you are sorry-like you drop food in your lap We know you are learning the meaning of the word, but it's still makes me think you are scared of getting into trouble. Like you ever get into trouble!!!!

Christmas-Cooper

What a difference one year makes: Last year Cooper wasn't aware of anything with Christmas...this year it's a whole different story!!

* The sitter told Cooper about Christmas and Santa, so he's learned a lot about what Santa will do in a few days and that he will come to Cooper's house...we hope he still understands when we are at Mimi and Pop Pop's. The family has a train that goes around the tree that Cooper is obsessed with (big surprise). Along with the train, there is a nativity scene that sits under the tree that the train goes around, so Cooper calls it the train station. Despite my many attempts to explain that is a manger and baby Jesus was born there I kept waiting for him to put baby Jesus on the train for a ride. However, that won't happen because the son, Dani, gave Cooper the train set. Now we need to go find a train station like at Ragaa's house...We also have 4 different train sets in our house!! And 2 different "train rooms" The Christmas train room and the Thomas train room......we've also found our new favorite place to buy Thomas products: Ross. We found a item that sells for $70 at toy stores for $17!!!

* Monday we were at Walmart where there was a Christmas tree decorated in the corner. Under the tree are presents that Cooper went over to open!! Needless to say, all of his presents are hidden away because they would all be opened (hint, hint Mimi and Pop Pop).

* Out of nowhere as we are driving past a shopping center Cooper starts saying "Candles like Hannukah". I was not sure what he said at first...it actually took me a few days of driving by the center to know what he was saying. I hadn't told him about Hannukah, so I couldn't imagine where he learned it. Then after week of hearing "Candles like Hannukah" everytime we drove by, he saw a candle that was burned out and said "find candle like Agent Oso" (Agent Oso is a Disney tv show). I was so excited to know where he learned it from. More and more I am convinced that tv is a great teaching tool when watching the right shows!!

* We've taught him 2 holiday songs: Jingle Bells and the Dreidel Song (since he knows what Hannukah is). These are the only 2 songs he's ever sung on his own (besides the alphabet song and the clean up song)

* This morning we get to the sitter's and just like every morning since Thanksgiving, Cooper has asked to go see the train station (manger). This morning he looks at the train from a different doorway, sees a 3 holder candleabra and says "Hannukah" over and over. Ragaa gave him the candle holder and he proceeded to ask for candles. Once he got the candles that was all he played with for the day taking the candles in and out. Tonight I decided to read him one of the Hannukah books we have and immediately when he saw the dreidel, he knew what is was and started singing "dreidel, dreidel, dreidel...you mama" so I could finish the song! My surprise was that I haven't showed him a dreidel before. I realized that he has only seen the tv show once, so he really took a lot from it!! So proud of my boy and how much well he is retaining what he sees on tv!!

shots anyone?

Took the kids to get their flu shots today. Cooper has always been a pretty easy shot taker, cries for a few seconds and is over it. He hasn't had a shot in over 7 months, though. Nora, well she's a squealer. She cries in such a way that I can't help but laugh (again, with the laughing) because I can't believe how she make such a noise without taking a breath.
So we take both kids in to the room to get their shot. As we get in the room, Cooper is saying how excited he is. "check my ears, my mouth, excited" Decide that Coop should get his shot first so he doesn't back out when he hears Nora's hysterical cry. He grabs the syringe. We try to distract him, but he wants to watch. He is more fascinated by the bandaid he gets afterwards he forgets to cry. He even THANKS the lady as he gets off the table. Steve holds down Nora and we were bracing for the squeal and nothing!!! She didn't even make a peep. As the nurse leaves Cooper thanks her again and she said she's never been thanked for giving shots.

Funny girl?

For the past 2 years I've heard how much Cooper looks like Steve. He does...the hair and eyes the most, of course that's what stands out. Finally tonight I saw a side of Cooper that is me and how Nora is just like Steve. I laugh at EVERYTHING. Just the way I am. Cooper laughs at everything and it is such a great ego booster! He laughs at the simple things and that just makes me laugh even more. Tonight I was trying so hard to make Nora laugh (not to compare, but Cooper laughed a lot at this age) and all I could get of her was a sympathy smile. I just hide around the corner and say boo to Cooper and he's laughing his head off asking for "more, Mama-more scare, Mama". So after countless attempts to make Nora laugh, I finally gave up. I decided that Cooper has my sense of humor and Nora has Steve's. Steve is a tough cookie to make laugh-he doesn't really just laugh outloud very often. That was Nora tonight.....so while Coop may not have my features-he's got one of the best parts of me. And let's face it, I need someone to laugh at me so I know I have that in Cooper. I will continue to work hard to make Nora laugh at me, but at least I know why she's tough to make it happen and it's not because I am not funny :)

Favorite thing!!

Love, love, love how the 2 of you look at each other. Nora your whole face lights up when you see your brother and you start kicking your feet. Cooper you say: hi Sweetie, hi Sweetie Pie, or hi Nora Nora when you see her. You've started where you come and give her hugs and kisses. You are incredibly gentle with your sister and we are very lucky that you are not too rough with her. Maybe it is because you know she is a girl.

Now... when Nora comes to your trains or plays with any of your toys, you immediately tell her "no, Nora Nora" and then push her away. If she doesn't move away you start to push her with your head. If one of us is nearby, then you tell Nora to go see Momma or Daddy.

letter from Mama

Dear Cooper and Nora,
I have not done a very good job and keeping this site up to date for you both. The blog is to serve as the modern version of what we call a baby book. Momma and Daddy both had them when they were babies and their Mommys were really good about writing all of those milestones down. Daddy and I knew we wouldn't write the adorable things you both do that capture our hearts each day, so we hoped that the blog would be a great way to keep track of everything. The bonus part was that your extended family that lives far away could relive those moments with us.
As I look at the site and see that nothing has been written about in more than 6 months I realize that I have been writing these things down for other people and not for you both to read about years from now.
I will go back in time a little to record a few things, but after today you will see posts that will be just a few sentences or long paragraphs telling a funny story of what you did. Daddy and I can't wait for you to ask us to retell these stories when you are older. We love you both so very much and each day are amazed at what you are teaching us about the how we see the world.
Love
Momma
